LIQUIDATED BELIEVES RUSSIAN REPRESENTATIVE#

TIRASPOL September 24 (RIA Novosti's Vladimir Sandutsa_ - The United Control Commission (UCC) is going to solve the problem of the posts established by Moldova and Transdniestria in the security zone, UCC co-chairman from Russia Oleg Astakhov told RIA Novosti.

According to him, more than 40 various posts (state traffic inspection, road police, customs, fiscal, migration and others), appeared in the security zone established unilaterally.

"While we reduce the number of peacekeeping posts (since 1998 their number decreased from 40 to 14), the number of posts which have nothing to do with peacekeeping operations increases. There are more than 100 Moldovan and Transdniestrian posts around our 14 peacekeeping posts," Astakhov said.

"The preservation of the posts, just as the tendency to the appearance of new ones makes it difficult for the UCC to work and does not strengthen security," the RIA interlocutor stressed.

The co-chairman of the commission believes that both Moldova and Transdniestria, establishing these posts unilaterally, are striving to use the UCC for justifying their actions and condemning the similar actions of the other side.

The issue of the posts was discussed on September 23 at a regular session of the Commission.

Taking into account the confrontation between Chisinau and Tiraspol and the curtailment of the negotiation process, only the UCC remains the only body where meetings of the sides' representatives are permanently held. That is why the Commission discusses this problem, Astakhov said.

"It is not easy but the Commission works to solve it so that only peacekeeping posts remain in the security zone," the Commission's co-chairman from Russia added.
