LAVROV MEETS FOREIGN MINISTERS OF IRAN AND PAKISTAN

MOSCOW, September 25 (RIA Novosti)Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov emphasized the importance of Iran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) during his meeting with Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs Kamal Kharrazi in New York.

An official of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Press and Information Department told RIA Novosti that the Ministers focused on discussing prospects for further expansion of bilateral high-level Russian-Iranian contacts.

In addition, Lavrov and Kharrazi discussed Iran's cooperation with the IAEA in terms of ensuring greater transparency of Iranian programs for developing its civil nuclear industry.

The Russian side spoke in favour of continued active cooperation between Tehran and the IAEA in this area.

Russia supports the efforts currently undertaken by India and Pakistan in order to resume a comprehensive dialogue between them, Sergei Lavrov said at his meeting with the Pakistani Minister of Foreign Affairs Khurshid Kasuri in New York.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry's Press and Information Department, "during the meeting, Sergei Lavrov confirmed Russia's support for the peace efforts currently undertaken by New Delhi and Islamabad to recommence a comprehensive political dialogue between the two countries on the basis of the Agreements previously reached by them in Simla and Lahor."

The two Ministers laid a special emphasis on discussing further expansion of the Russian-Pakistani cooperation in combating the international terrorism as well as other global security challenges.
