CE OMBUDSMAN RETURNS TO MOSCOW FROM NORTH CAUCASUS TRIP

MINERALNIYE VODY, September 26 (RIA Novosti) - Council of Europe Commissioner on Human Rights Alvaro Gil-Robles completed on Sunday his trip to the North Caucasus and left for Moscow.

The European Commissioner visited the North Caucasus in the framework of the visit to the Russian Federation to prepare a review report on human rights in Russia.

During his four-day stay in the Caucasus, Alvaro Gil-Robles visited Chechnya and Ingushetia.

In Grozny, he took part in the work of the conference on the problem of human rights in the Chechen Republic, met with President Elect Alu Alkhanov, other Chechen leaders. He also visited a number of social sphere facilities in Grozny.

In Beslan, the European Commissioner visited the site of the Sept.1-3 terrorist attack and laid flowers to the memorial sign to the tragedy victims.

In Moscow Mr. Gil-Robles will hold a number of meetings with the Russian leadership, including the Defense Minister and the Prosecutor General.

Mr. Gil-Robles noted during a conversation with a RIA Novosti correspondent that he takes interest in such problems, that's why he plans to meet with these officials.

"The Moscow program of meetings is being drawn up," said the Council of Europe Commissioner.
