MANAGERS OF JAPANESE ENERGY COMPANIES PAY A VISIT TO SAKHALIN

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, September 28 (RIA Novosti's Pyotr Tsyrendorzhiyev)- A business part of the second day of the visit to Sakhalin (Russian Far East) of a delegation of managers of big Japanese energy companies began on Tuesday, RIA Novosti was told in the South-Sakhalin subsidiary of the Michinoku Bank.

The delegation, which consists of 30 managers, is led by President of this Japanese bank Kazuo Harada, the Agency's interlocutor said. The first item of the Japanese guests' Sakhalin program was a visit to the northern Sakhalin town of Okha where the oil and gas project Sakhalin-1 is under way.

The representatives of big energy companies of Japan which include Mitsui, the Japan Energy Corporation, and the Japan Petroleum Exploration will also visit a construction site of the plant for liquefying natural gas in the south of the island which is being built under the Sakhalin-2 project.

The plant is being built by an affiliated company of the Japanese Chiyoda corporation, and in 2007 the first stage of the world's biggest plant for the production of ecologically pure fuel will be commissioned. The first buyers of this environmentally friendly fuel are four Japanese energy corporations from the islands of Honshiu and Kiushu . The first stage of the plant will annually produce 4.8 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas and when the second stage is commissioned the plant will put out 9.6 million tonnes of fuel
