KIEV, September 30 (RIA Novosti's Viktor Demidenko, Valery Yarmolenko) - The president of Ukraine has called on countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States to combine efforts against the global threats.

He said so during the Thursday meeting in Kiev with the chief delegates of the Commonwealth of Independent States' interior ministries, which attended the ministerial council session.

"The main thing is to act in concert against the global threats. I mean above all terrorism, money laundering. We also have a lot of domestic problems," Kuchma is quoted by his press service representative as saying.

The president believes that a joint strategy and tactics are needed.

The ministers informed him of the results of the council session held in Kiev on September 29 to 30. Much attention was given to stepping up work against terrorism and opposition to security threats in the CIS countries, the press service noted.

"I'm glad that such a representative conference has been held in Kiev. It is remarkable that it considered so many problems. The common approach to what is going on and how to combat it - I'm sure we have a common approach - is twice as pleasant," Kuchma said.

The conversation with the president also focused on improving interaction between the CIS states in the fight against crime, the press service also said.

In this context, Kuchma supported the initiative to establish a Eurasian group against money laundering and against the financing of terrorism.
