"We will be exhibiting the most competitive models of our small arms designed both for general and special purposes. Among them mention can be made of the Kashtan and Bizon-2 machine pistols," a Rosoboronexport spokesman told RIA Novosti on the previous day.
The spokesman said visitors will traditionally have their interest drawn to such world-famous specimens of highly effective small arms as Kalashnikov automatic rifles of upgraded models (AK-101, AK-102, AK-103 and AK-104 of 5.56-mm and 7.62-mm calibers, and VSS and Dragunov SVD and SVDS sniper rifles.
"Our stand will feature export versions of portable and hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers, and grenade launcher systems," the Rosoboronexport spokesman said.
He believes that visitors will be interested in specimens of special small arms offered for export developed at the Central Research Institute of Precision Engineering.
"Among them are the SR-1 9-mm self-loading pistol, the SR-2 9-mm machine pistol, and the compact-sized SR-3 9-mm automatic rifle. The original bullet design and optimum ballistic characteristics guarantee high piercing and hitting performance, including when shooting at targets protected by anti-fragmentation flak jackets and at soft-skinned equipment," the source explained.
He also believes that secret services will be interested in the PSS 7.62-mm pistol designed for noiseless and flameless fire, "which sometimes is of crucial importance in disabling terrorists and saving hostages".
Among the exhibits the Rosoboronexport spokesman also mentioned the AS automatic rifle and the VSS 9-mm rifle, "which penetrate a flak jacket at a range of 400 metres and in terms of dependability and possible exploitation in unfavourable conditions (dust, sand, rain, etc.) and at temperatures ranging from minus 50 degrees to plus 50 degrees are not inferior to the famed AKM automatic rifle."
Also of interest, in his view, is the SPP-1M pistol and the APS automatic rifle for underwater shooting.
The Rosoboronexport spokesman mentioned as the most interesting items ammunition for special weapons, in particular SP-4, SP-5, and SP-6 cartridges, and the Kord 12.7-mm machine gun designed to engage lightly armoured targets and fire weapons and to defeat personnel at ranges of up to 1,500-2,000 metres.
"Special assets demonstrated also include a new generation of bullet-proof vests and helmets made from special steel," said the source.
The exhibition is being attended by more than 200 companies and firms from 36 countries. It highlights internal security and border control and the struggle against terrorism. The exhibition will close down on October 6.
