Anatoly Kulikov has called for close cooperation with the international community in the struggle against terrorism. "The only guarantee of success against terrorism is the permanent cooperation between the intelligence services, police and judiciary of all countries," he said.
Kulikov also opined that the use of force in Iraq has become a strategic error for the United States.
"The war has awoken jihad of a new kind, which the Arab East has never known before," he noted. "If the problem of Iraq remains unsettled before long, the possibility of the world getting a new Afghanistan is very high."
Parliamentary State Secretary at the FRG Interior Ministry Fritz Rudolf Kerper also emphasized the need of broad cooperation in combating international terrorism.
"The shocking tragedy of Beslan in North Ossetia has demonstrated one more time that nothing is sacred to terrorists," he said. "International terrorism is a threat to all of us no matter what country we live in."
In this connection, he stressed the need of international exchange of information. It will help to prevent and avert terrorist sorties, he said.
Kerper pointed to the high level of such cooperation between Russia and the FRG.
Israeli Knesset deputy Benyamin Ben Eliser shared the experience of struggle against terrorism in Israel. He emphasized the importance of elaborating a common approach to prevent acts of terrorism by suicide bombers. "Everything must be done for them not to be heroes in the eyes of the Moslem public," he said.
