"The G8 is a less formal mechanism, there are even more formal mechanisms, but the G8 can also develop, and it would be useful if this development took place thanks to India," said Sergei Lavrov.
He noted that India had recently become one of the leading powers.
The Russian minister told journalists that terrorist acts in Egypt strengthened Russia's "resolve of a tougher fight against terrorism," he said.
The Russian foreign minister expressed condolences to those who were wounded and the families of those killed in the Egypt terrorist acts, as well as to the governments of all countries whose citizens were affected by the attacks.
Mr. Lavrov confirmed that one Russian woman was killed, and another few Russian citizens were wounded.
Commenting on the discussion of the situation in Chechnya at a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Mr. Lavrov said that the Russian authorities were capable to normalize life in the North Caucasus.
"If we are not impeded by means of destabilization of the situation, I assure everyone, including European parliamentarians, that we will be able to organize normal calm well-to-do life in the North Caucasus. We have both forces and means to do it," said Mr. Lavrov, who is in India on a visit.
