TBILISI, October 10 (RIA Novosti's Marina Kvaratskhelia) - Georgia does not plan to deploy on its territory foreign military bases and must care about the reinforcement of its armed forces, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili told journalists at the air base in Alekseyevka during the ceremony of giving American military assistance to the Georgian defense ministry.

"We undertook most part of financing on the modern equipment of our army this year. Today we received aid from the U.S. Government, for which we are very grateful. If other countries render us such aid, for example, Russia, I will be glad," said Mr. Saakashvili.

An American Galaxy C-5 plane with technical assistance cargo worth $1.1 million arrived at the air base in Alekseyevka on Sunday.

The aid, consisting of 50,000 sq.m. of hard unprocessed material for military uniform, 300 military uniforms for desert operations of a mobile army and field equipment for the 11th brigade of the Georgian defense ministry, was allocated as part of the U.S. Government Security Program.

On Oct. 13, the head of the U.S. Government military cooperation office, Lt.-Col. Bred Jones will give 300 military uniform sets for commandos desert operations to servicemen trained in line with the Georgian-American program Train and Equip. The commando battalion will soon replenish the Georgian peacekeeping contingent in Iraq.
