MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) - The Foreign Ministry positively assesses the decision of the Finnish side to close the Kavkaz Center Web site, the deputy head of the ministry's press and information department, Mikhail Troyansky, said in an interview with Ekho Moskvy radio.

"We note the promptness with which the Finnish colleagues decided to do so," he said. "The Russian Foreign Ministry will continue to take all necessary actions so that such sites, which are the information weapon of international terrorists from wherever they might be operating, are shut down.

"This is in full accord with UN Security Council resolution 1566, initiated by Russia and approved by all the Council members a few days ago."

The Chechen separatist Web site, Kavkaz Center, was closed in Finland on Monday. On a Yuleisradio television program, Markus Lyypo, head of the Finnish Foreign Ministry's political department, said Finish police knew the identities of the individuals that created the site.

In an interview with RIA Novosti, Yurkki Karasvirta, the head of the press department of the Finnish TeliaSonera Finland Oyj telecommunication company, said the site was not on Sonera's server. According to him, this was discovered during an investigation into the situation. Mr. Karsvirta said Sonera provided communication channels to many clients, and the site was opened on one of the clients' servers. Mr. Karasvirta did not say which company's server the site was on, but only that it was in Finland.

He also said that the possibility of shutting down the company's communication channels was discussed with the police, however channels were not closed because the server served many other users, and disconnecting it would have affected innocent clients.
