MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) - Terrorists who blow up civilians and take schoolchildren and mothers with babies hostages are Satanists, Ravil Gainutdin, chairman of the Council of Russia's Muftis said at a press conference in Moscow on Wednesday.

According to him, "terrorists in Beslan committed a most horrible crime. Their actions prove that they are led not by the Koran but by the laws of Satan."

"Terrorists are not shakhids and defenders of the faith but murderers. Their actions have nothing to do with the Koran," the mufti stressed.

"Terrorists are fanatics blinded by hatred not only for other nations and cultures but also for their people and their religion," he emphasized.

"Islam prohibits to insult people and condemns even involuntary murder. The Koran equals the murder of one innocent person to the assassination of mankind on the whole," Ravil Gainutdin said.

"Islam demands mercy and compassion even at wartime," he noted. Prophet Mohammed speaking to warriors before a battle warned them against killing a child, a woman, an old man and a praying monk, he added.

"If someone who commits a murder or a terrorist act believes he will go to paradise, he is mistaken. He will go to hell. The road to paradise cannot be paved with blood," the mufti said.
