SUKHUMI, October 15 (RIA Novosti) - The parliament of Abkhazia asks the Russian leadership for supporting the idea of establishing associated relations with the Russian Federation.

The parliamentary appeal was voiced at the briefing in Sukhumi on Friday by Alexander Adleiba, head of the Abkhaz parliamentary office.

The appeal stresses that such a model of relations necessitates no amendments to the Russian or Abkhaz constitutions and can rely on an agreement.

The agreement can be based on the following principles. Abkhazia conducts a foreign policy coordinated with Russia without countering its interests. Abkhazia grants Russia the right to house military bases and jointly with Russia protects the borders of Abkhazia. Also, Abkhazia enters into the currency and customs alliance with Russia, synchronises the legal system.

The appeal also notes that, irrespective of the outcome of the presidential election in Abkhazia, it will not change its foreign policy course regarding Russia. "Russia has been and remains our main guarantor of stability, security and a strategic partner. We will never abandon this road", the appeal stresses.
