MTV RUSSIA GIVES AWARDS IN KREMLIN

MOSCOW, October 18 (RIA Novosti) - MTV Russia has given awards to Russian artists. The Russian Music Awards ceremony was held in the Kremlin's Palace of Congresses and lasted for two hours, Kommersant reports.

The main problem that dominated the producers' minds was to rule out the possibility of not only a terrorist attack, but also any bomb hoax (as all the viewers would have had to be evacuated, filming and live broadcasting halted and an international scandal as a result). Therefore, the MTV management decided that the Kremlin was the only suitable place for the ceremony.

The procession of pop singers was reminiscent of a May 1 parade: a marching guard of honor with rifles soon turned into a dashing dance.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky, a flamboyant politician and constant fixture at such events, presented the winners with their prizes.

The winners' names could be easily predicted: the awards went to graduates of the popular Fabrika Zvezd (Fame Academy) TV show.

The audience did not see on stage Seryoga, a talented Belarussian-Ukrainian rap singer, whom MTV had brought to Russian audiences and who was nominated in two categories.

The band Leningrad smashed up all their instruments on stage while playing along to their song "Gelendzhik". All foreign participants, including The Rasmus, performed in strict compliance with their contracts.

At the end of the show, Brian May and Roger Taylor sang "We Will Rock You" accompanied by the troupe and the orchestra of the We Will Rock You musical, and then the Queen guitarist invited Zemfira, a Russian rock star, on the stage to sing We Are the Champions. The audience gave it a standing ovation.
