OUTPUT IN RUSSIA'S FIVE BASE INDUSTRIES UP 6.9% IN JANUARY-SEPTEMBER 2004

MOSCOW, October 21 (RIA Novosti) - Output in Russia's five base industries rose 6.9% in January-September 2004 as compared to 2.8% in the respective period of last year, the latest report of the Federal State Statistics Service says.

Russia's five base sectors include industry, construction, agriculture, transport and retail trade.

According to the Federal State Statistics Service, in September the Russian industry produced products (works, services) worth 1,000 billion rubles in current prices ($1 = 29.12 rubles) or 3.5% more as compared to September 2003. In January-September 2004 this figure rose 6.5% to 8,062 billion rubles.

The output of all agricultural producers (agricultural organizations, peasant (farm) enterprises, individuals) amounted to 312.1 billion rubles in current prices in September 2004 and 1,119 billion rubles in current prices in January-September 2004, according to calculations.

In January-September 2004 transport cargo turnover equaled 3,369.8 billion ton/kilometers.

In September 2004 retail trade amounted to 482 billion rubles or 12.5% more in terms of goods as compared to the respective period of 2003 and to 3,933.1 billion rubles or 11.5% more in January-September 2004.

In September 2004 retail trade turnover was 77.8% determined by trading companies while the share of markets amounted to 22.2% (76,1% and 23.9% in September 2003, respectively).
