NAVY VETERANS TO MARK 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF RUSSIA'S SUBMARINE FORCE

ST.PETERSBURG, October 23 (RIA Novosti's Anna Novak) -On Saturday, St.Petersburg is hosting the 2nd forum of the International Association of Submarine Veterans Societies.

A spokesperson for the Association told RIA Novosti that the forum will bring together representatives of over 70 organizations comprising submarine veterans from 44 regions of Russia, CIS countries (Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia), Latvia and Estonia. Representatives of veterans organizations from other Navy and Armed Forces' arms and branches of service have been invited as observers.

The top item of the forum's agenda concerns coordination of Russian Navy veterans' activities aimed at preparation and celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Russian submarine force in 2006.

The spokesperson pointed out that the program of preparation for the event includes such projects as permanent moorage of the first Russian submarine K-3 in St.Petersburg with subsequent establishment of a floating museum onboard. Another project envisages installation of the conning tower of the first Russian nuclear ballistic missile submarine K-137 on the Vasilyevsky Island in St.Petersburg.

The program for celebration of the Russian submarine force's 100th anniversary also includes hosting of the 43rd Congress of International Submariners Association.
