As head of the Central Elections Commission (CEC) Sergei Kivalov said, Viktor Yanukovich has taken 43.28% of the vote, and his main rival Viktor Yushchenko - 36.26%.
Mr. Yanukovich is leading in the country's central and eastern regions while Mr. Yushchenko is winning in Western Ukraine, Mr. Kivalov said.
According to him, Viktor Yanukovich has gained a greater number of votes in the Donetsk, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Lugansk, Odessa, Kharkov and Kherson Regions.
e EC THe The cecTHe the THE tHE The The The the The CEC head said that Viktor Yushchenko is in the lead in the Vinnitsa, Volyn, Zhitomir, Trans-Carpathian, Ivano-Frankovsk, Lvov, Kiev, Rovno, Ternopol and Sumy Regions.
According to the CEC information, Mr. Yushchenko has also won a greater number of votes in Kiev (more than 60%). Over 14% of voters in the capital backed Mr. Yanukovich.
