MINSK, November 4 (RIA Novosti's Olesya Luchaninova) - The Belarussian leadership is not considering double citizenship for Belarus and Russia yet, President Alexander Lukashenko said Thursday.

"So far, this is nothing but rumours that I refuse to believe," he added.

In his words, it is Russia above all who is not ready to provide absolutely equal rights for citizens of both countries.

"I think Russia is not ready today to let the Belarussians enjoy the same rights, political and economic, as the Russians do," said Lukashenko.

He continued that citizenship should be equal.

"There should be no second-rate citizens either in Belarus or in Russia," said Lukashenko.

He added that both countries had solved problems relating to Russian gas supplies to Belarus in 2005.

"We have an agreement with Russia on gas purchases. We have agreed on supply costs and gas transit across Belarus," said Lukashenko.

The Belarussian president believes that last winter's conflict between Russia and Belarus over Russian gas supplies would not be repeated.

"This conflict was a good lesson not for us only but for Russia too," said Lukashenko.

He remarked that the Belarussian and Russian leadership approached the gas supply issue very carefully. "The repetition of the conflict is inadmissible. I think it will not happen," said Lukashenko.

As for Russian oil supplies to Belarus, he said that there had never been problems in the sphere.
