"Considering the Russian situation, I don't think it is the most lucrative field of Gasprom activities. I see it as an occasional move, rather than a system," he said while in conference with William Ramsey, Executive Director, International Energy Agency.
The Gasprom has purchased more than 10 per cent of UES (United Russian Power Grid) shares and a big Mosenergo block, Alexei Miller, Gasprom president, announced early October. Power industry is among end consumers, while the gas mammoth makes it a point to have interests in the entire business from extraction to client. Power industry in and outside Russia is a major gas consumer, so the Gasprom certainly benefits with leading electric companies' stock, he explained.
The Gasprom has by now acquired Mosenergo control block-but no similar blocks in any other electric company, Vassili Zubakin of the UES board said yesterday.
