"I believe the military-technical cooperation between Russia and Kyrgyzstan is most dynamic. We are a small republic and in order to guarantee the stability; we must count on our good friends - primarily on Russia. We participate in all regional and international organizations where Russia is present in order to ensure stable and secure development of the republic," Mr. Akayev said.
He reminded the journalists that a year ago a Russian Air Force base was opened in the Kyrgyz town of Kant.
"Today, rapid deployment forces in Central Asian region and, primarily, their main component - the Kant Air Force base - are capable of providing adequate response to any threat, including international terrorism, extremism, etc," Mr. Akayev stated.
"A year ago, a Russian Air Force base was opened in the Kyrgyz town of Kant. St. Petersburg took the base under its patronage. We did everything possible to provide good living conditions for military personnel of the base," said St. Petersburg governor Valentina Matvienko in her turn.
