LONDON, November 16. (RIA Novosti's Alexander Smotrov) - The 8th international conference "Sakhalin Oil and Gas 2004" opens in London on Tuesday.

Among speakers are representatives of the Russian and British governments, the administration of the Sakhalin region, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as companies doing business on Sakhalin, including Jens Pace, president of BP Sakhalin, Stephen Terni, president of Exxon Neftegas Ltd, Lev Brodsky, general director of Sakhalin Projects, and others.

The first day of the conference will be devoted to the prospects of the already existing projects Sakhalin 1 and Sakhalin 2, as well as to the progress of supporting geological work within the Sakhalin 5 project carried out by Rosneft and BP under a production sharing agreement.

On the same day the forum's delegates will discuss the outlook for Russian energy supplies to North-East Asia, the problems of complying with Russian and international standards when developing fields, training of personnel and environmental security.

On the second day of the conference, November 17th, there will be sessions and roundtables devoted to separate issues and aspects of activities of Russian and international companies in the region.

On November 18th a special seminar titled "Production, logistic and technical difficulties on Sakhalin" will be held.

"This year's agenda reflects the developing spheres of interest in Sakhalin's oil and gas industry: the progress of projects' fulfillment, opinions of subcontractors and suppliers, the Russian party, logistics, infrastructure, accommodation needs, attraction of skilled manpower, consultations on entering the market," said Charlotte Hunt, deputy director of IBC Global Conferences. "This year's innovation is thematic roundtable discussions, which allow participants to discuss difficulties and experience in some or other area."

The annual conference is held with support of the British Council for Trade and Investment and is attended by over 300 high-ranking delegates interested in oil and gas projects on Sakhalin. As the event attracts increasing interest, this year it is held at a more prestigious and larger site, the Royal Lancaster hotel in London, where delegates also have an opportunity to organize exposition stands.
