On November 17, a photo exhibition Images of Egypt: the past and the present of the great civilization opens in Cairo. Visitors will be able to see the most recent findings of Russian archeologists made on the territory of Egypt - at archeological digs of pharaoh mummies in Luxor, at the sites in the ancient Egyptian capital Memphis, at a medieval Christian monastery in Al-Fayum and at the complex of ancient temples and houses in the Nile delta dating back to the time of the earlier pharaoh dynasties.
The photo exhibits will also include pictures made during underwater archeological expeditions near the Mediterranean coast of Egypt. Last year, scientists from the Russian Institute of Egyptology started the study of a 20-kilometer coastal line in Alexandria, where submerged ruins of port facilities and buildings of the Greek-Roman period are located.
In the framework of the conference, the scientists will give lectures on the results of archeological research conducted by CES in Egypt, on the history of Russian Egyptology, about Russian historians and archeologists, who worked in Egypt, and about the participation of Russian experts in restoration of Copt cultural and religious monuments, in particular - the famous Hanging Church in Cairo.
CES has been conducting archeological research in Egypt since 1995. By the RAS Presidium resolution, a CES representation in Egypt was founded in 2001 - the Russian Institute of Egyptology in Cairo. At present, the institute conducts archeological research practically all around Egypt.
