VLADIMIR PUTIN, HUGO CHAVES SATISFIED WITH HIGH LEVEL OF RUSSIAN-VENEZUELAN POLITICAL DIALOGUE

MOSCOW, November 26 (RIA Novosti) - Vladimir Putin and Hugo Chavez are satisfied with the high level of Russian-Venezuelan political dialogue, reads the joint statement issued following the two President's talks in the Kremlin.

"The sides are ready to develop this dialogue for the sake of peace, strict observation of the existing international legal norms of stable development, eradication of poverty, migration settlement, just and equal trade, respect of human rights, ethnic, religious and cultural variety and environmental protection," the statement runs.

Vladimir Putin and Hugo Chavez agreed to promote Russia's dialogue and cooperation with regional and political organizations and integration associations in the western hemisphere, including the Organization of American States, Rio Group, Andean Community, MERCOSUR, etc.

The Presidents ordered ministers of the two countries continue negotiations on draft agreements for their soonest coordination and signing.

Vladimir Putin and Hugo Chavez pointed out Russian and Venezuelan common positions on key international problems.

"We reaffirm our common interest in the formation of just democratic law and order based on the primacy of the international law, equal economic and social development and sovereign equality of all states," the document stressed.

Russia and Venezuela deny unilateral approaches to the solution of international problems and adhere to multilateral principles in the functioning of the system of international relations.

"We come out for the improvement of this system for the sake of more successful fight against the threats and challenges mankind is facing in the more and more interdependent and asymmetric modern world," the statement underscores.

In this connection Vladimir Putin and Hugo Chavez approved efforts to increase the UN efficiency and consolidation of the Security Council's role.

"We share common opinions on the unique and central role of the United Nations as the key regulating mechanism of international relations. We are to develop our interaction within the UN framework with account for our positive experience for the sake of peace and international security," the join statement says.

Vladimir Putin and Hugo Chavez agreed to coordinate positions to create the necessary conditions for the peaceful settlement in Iraq, the Middle East, Afghanistan and other regions taking into account the principle of sovereignty and impossibility of intervention in domestic affairs of sovereign states.

The Russian and Venezuelan leaders hailed steps aimed at the Kyoto protocol's coming into force timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

"In this connection we are ready to promote international cooperation against consequences of climate change and pursue the adaptation policy providing stable development of our countries," the statement reads.

Russia and Venezuela condemn the 40-year unilateral trade and financial embargo of Cuba and come out for its lifting.

Moreover, the two countries advocate the enlargement of the UN Security Council.

"We believe that developing countries and geographic regions should be more widely represented in the enlarged UN Security Council," the joint statement runs.

According to the document, Russia and Venezuela agree with the necessity to improve mechanisms of the Security Council's activity, which should focus on the most urgent problems of mankind.

"The Security Council's reform should be aimed at the democratization of this key body in the interests of its effective functioning in compliance with the UN Charter," the statement says.
