As the press service of Karelia's government reported it is planned to discuss the investment projects which are being implemented with the participation of Finnish capital on the territory of the republic having a common border with Finland.
More than 30 projects worth over €1.2 million allocated from Finland's budget, aimed at social and economic development of the region, were being implemented on the autonomous republic's territory in 2004 within the programme of border cooperation
In particular, work on the projects of organisation of regular railway communication Petrozavodsk (the capital of Karelia) - Joensuu, establishment of a border industrial complex at Kostomuksha town, and construction of the Suoperia automobile border crossing point began.
Listed among the investment projects being implemented with the participation of large Finnish industrial companies is the construction of the second phase of a wood-converting plant worth $4.8 million, the putting of the second phase of a plant making automobile electronics worth more than $18 million into operation, and the construction of two saw mils and a furniture factory.
To attract potential investors to Karelia, work to improve the road- transport and customs infrastructure is under way, a new terminal of the Besovets airport has been built, and the reconstruction of the Petrozavodsk - the state border with Finland motor road section was completed.
