SHCHEDRIN'S WORKS PERFORMED IN MOSCOW MUSIC HOUSE

MOSCOW, November 29 (RIA Novosti) - Rodion Shchedrin's compositions created in 1995-2004 were performed in the Moscow International Music House. Shchedrin's music is complicated. He does not flirt with the audience and does not indulge its weaknesses. It is no matter whether Shchedrin works in the styles of neo-romanticism, neo-folklore or overall post-modernism, he is always expressive and sincere, Rossiiskaya Gazeta says.

The program included the Russian premiere of Concerto Parlando for violin, trumpet and string orchestra. It was first performed at the Shchedrin music festival in Saint Nazaire (France) two months ago. The composition is dedicated to French violinist Philippe Graffin whose artistic, free, organic and expressive manner charmed the audience.

The style of Yekaterina Mechetina, laureate of many prestigious international contests, is characterized by vigor and precise touch. She performed the sixth piano concert ordered by famous Concertgebouw concert hall for the first time in Amsterdam in 2003.

However, the audience was impressed most by the performance of the viola concert played by Mikhail Bereznitsky, winner of international contests. It was the greatest coincidence of the composer's idea and interpretation.

The Seasons Moscow chamber orchestra conducted by Vladislav Bulakhov managed to convey the uneasy and explosive pulse of the time and the character of Rodion Shchedrin's music in its active and somewhat aggressive manner.

The 72-year old composer experiences a remarkable period of his creative maturity. He is currently writing a composition for 1,000 cellos ordered by Japan. Mstislav Rostropovich promised to play one of the 1,000 parts.
