YUSHCHENKO DEMANDS RECOGNITION OF FIRST ROUND VICTORY

KIEV, November 29 (RIA Novosti) - Presidential hopeful Viktor Yushchenko appealed to the Supreme Court to acknowledge his victory in the first election round, with huge trespasses in the runoff, our correspondent reports from courtroom.

The opposition leader's lawyers came up today with a new appeal, which spreads to the initial round. They insist on the runoff annulled, as before.

Runoff violations were so big that to discern the nation's true choice is impossible now, opposition activists' point out.

The new appeal "runs counter to the Constitution and infringes upon voters' rights," said a spokeswoman of Viktor Yanukovich, the other hopeful.

The Supreme Court session goes on. It may take two or even three weeks to make a final verdict, Stepan Havrish, another of Yanukovich's spokesmen, said to the media during a break.

Sergei Karmazin, of Yuschenko's crew, is of a different opinion-he thinks the court needs a mere week or even less.

The sides come up with ever new arguments in the pleadings to be settled either in courtroom or in the court conference room.
