"International arbitrators are not to take sides as they forecast further developments. Ukraine is at stake, and I hope the matter will come to a just settlement," he said to the media.
Mr. Havrish does not think the conflicting parties can ever come to an accord, if not for international mediation. "Ukrainian political elites have no political resources sufficient to do within international go-betweens," he remarked.
As for parliament's resolution to dismiss the Cabinet, Mr. Yanukovich's right-hand man finds it a move dictated by emotion, which cannot settle the Ukrainian political crisis.
"What we have is a political stalemate-the chessmen are moving to and fro, while the situation does not see whatever considerable change," he figuratively remarked.
Meanwhile, the national economy is on the decline, with a finance crisis looming close by. All that ought to make the conflicting parties meet each other halfway, considers Stepan Havrish.
Victor Yanukovich appealed to the Supreme Court today to invalidate the presidential runoff of November 21 with blatant trespasses in many parts of the country. Mr. Havrish regards his boss' move as preventive hit on court proceedings, of which he expects a bias.
"Our Party's arguments and appeals are merely shrugged off, so there is danger of tendentious court hearings," he said to newsmen during a break in the hearings.
He had not got wind of Victor Yanukovich's appeal before it came, but he thinks his boss had every reason to make it, he added.
The court was questioning witnesses throughout this afternoon. Both litigants' spokesmen expect the session to take a day or two, they are saying in the lobby.
