PAU-ORTHEZ BUCKLES UNDER CSKA PRESSURE

Moscow, 2 December - RIA Novosti. Didier Gadou, the head coach of France's Pau-Orthez basketball team, said that his team lost to CSKA Moscow last night because it could not cope with the Russian team's pressure.

The CSKA press service has reported that the French coach explained the reasons behind his team's 80:60 defeat in the fifth match of the Euroleague immediately after the game.

"We knew that the CSKA players were very good at throwing three pointers, so our main objective was to stop them getting free shots in," Gadou said. "We managed to do this at the start of the match, but later my players could not keep up with the fast CSKA players."

He also said that Pau-Orthez defended poorly and lost too much possession. "Unfortunately, we were unable to play under the great pressure from CSKA," he said, "which is why we lost."

Gadou said CSKA was an excellent side that completely deserved victory and a place in the Final Four.

CSKA head coach Dusan Ivkovic said his team had played well and, for the first time since the start of the season, his players believed they could win every game.

"Although we allowed our opponents to score easy baskets at times," he said, "my players often hit back on the break and tried to play attractive basketball. Pau-Orthez managed to score only 60 points and this is a good result." Ivkovic added that he believed the side was making progress.

The win made it five out of five for CSKA in the Euroleague 2004/05. The Moscow team's next match on December 8 will be away to Spain's Unicaja.
