NEW CHAIRMAN ELECTED FOR UKRAINIAN CEC

KIEV, December 8 (RIA Novosti) - The Ukrainian Central Election Commission has elected, by secret ballot at a session, Yaroslav Davidovich as its chairman.

In the previous CEC, Davidovich was the deputy chairman. In counting votes during the runoff presidential election, he undersigned all the protocols.

Speaking at the session of the Ukrainian Supreme Court where the plea of Victor Yuschenko's supporters was in consideration, Davidovich confirmed that a set of violations had been made, influencing the vote count.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Rada dismissed the previous make-up of the CEC and approved a new one. Eleven of the 15 members of the former CEC are in the new commission.

The former chairman Sergei Kivalov has not entered. He was proposed by the propresidential factions Ukrainian Regions and the Socio-Democratic Party of Ukraine (united).

Upon approval of the new make-up, presidential runner Victor Yanukovich said that there are no his supporters in the new CEC.
