MOSCOW, December 10 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will consider possible mutual steps to relax visa restrictions with Poland. Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko said in an interview with RIA Novosti that Moscow was pleased with Warsaw's decision to introduce annual multiple entry visas for several categories of Russian citizens in November 2004.
According to Mr. Yakovenko, the relaxed visa restrictions applied to individuals who maintained regular business, cultural and athletic contacts with Poland. "We applaud Poland's decision to give similar visas to the people who visit the graves of their close relatives," he said. "This is especially important because of the 60th anniversary of [the end of World War II].
"We intend to consider reciprocal steps." He said this topic might be covered at negotiations between Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Polish Foreign Minister Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz during the Polish minister's visit Moscow on December 15-16.
