Viktor Khristenko met President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation today, noting that Russia's nuclear power industry now generated 16 percent of all national electricity.
At the same time, Central Russian and Urals NPPs provide 30 percent of all local power, Mr. Khristenko added.
Russian NPPs can generate 22-23 percent of all electricity by 2020 in line with the national energy strategy, providing European Russia with up to 40 percent of its power, the Minister believes.
Vladimir Putin and Viktor Khristenko discussed various issues pertaining to the coordination of programs as regards the development of the national nuclear power industry, as well as the Russian energy sector as a single whole.
Both men also discussed the development of the power-network infrastructure and specific economic implications of commissioning power units at the Kalinin and Volgodonsk NPPs, the presidential administration's press service noted.
Viktor Khristenko informed the head of state about specific prospects for overhauling the Russian nuclear industry in conditions of the nationwide power-industry reform, as well as organizational-legal forms of the nuclear power industry's operation for using investments (bank loans, first and foremost) more actively in line with sectoral-development programs, press service officials added.
Moreover, Viktor Khristenko informed Vladimir Putin about other aspects of the national power-industry reform, due to be examined at a Cabinet session next week.
