MOSCOW, December 18 (RIA Novosti) - German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder pointed out Russian and German common positions on counter-terrorism.

"The governments of both countries [Russia and Germany] believes that counter-terrorism should be systematic regardless of the sites of terrorist attacks," Mr. Schroeder said in an interview with Rossiiskaya Gazeta published on Saturday, December 18 prior to the interstate German-Russian consultations.

The chancellor spoke about German-Russian close cooperation against international terrorism. According to him, the September 11, 2001 joint statement by the Russian president and German chancellor stresses that the sides intend to promote this cooperation.

"Bilateral efforts on further consolidation of the UN anti-terrorist role and cooperation within G8, Russia-NATO Council and other international cooperation are highly important," Gerhard Schroeder emphasized.

Joint fight against international cooperation and coordination of positions on international and European issues are important examples of bilateral cooperation, he noted.
