MOSCOW, December 22 (RIA Novosti) - Fans of women's tennis said Russian women's brilliant performance was the main event of 2004, a poll posted on the All-Russian Tennis Association's Web site said.
About 2,200 people responded to the question: "What was the most exciting event of 2004?" The vast majority of respondents said Russian women players' victories.
Only 9% voted for the Olympics.
Last season, Russian women tennis players won a quarter of all international tournaments (15 of 60). Anastasia Myskina's victory at the French Open, Maria Sharapova's triumph at Wimbledon and the end of the season tournament in Los Angeles, and Svetlana Kuznetsova's victory at the US Open are all noteworthy.
