"This applies to visa issue for a term of five years, the period Russian passports for foreign trips are valid, or for the issue of multiple visas. These benefits are granted to categories of Russian citizens dealing with the arts, culture, education, to students and civil servants," said the president's aide.
He made a point that this agreement on simplifying the visa regime between Russia and the European Union should draw on the best achievements of such bilateral documents. Concurrently, a corresponding agreement between Russia and the European Union can be expanded, he noted.
"One always thinks of making a step forward, say, expanding the number of categories of citizens who are entitled to privileged visas. Indeed, a lot can be done for facilitating contacts in the frontier zone," said Yastrzhembsky.
Talks are now underway mainly with Schengen countries.
"If a relevant agreement is signed with the EU, it will apply above all to Schengen countries. Russia wants its citizens to make use of as many opportunities as possible for trips to Schengen countries and to enjoy maximal freedom of movement," said Yastrzhembsky.
