BEIRUT, December 24 (RIA Novosti's Yulia Troitskaya) - Iran does not take seriously the U.S. threats, said Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi, currently on a two-day official visit to Lebanon.

"America's threats against Iran are not new and nobody takes them seriously," the Iranian minister told journalists on arriving in Beirut.

According to him, "Iran will keep striving for its goals."

The U.S. blaming Iran for interfering in Iraq's domestic affairs is ridiculous, Kamal Kharrazi said.

"America attacked Iraq and interfered in its affairs to seize the country while there are no Iranian soldiers in Iraq at all," the minister emphasized.

In his words, Iran hails the elections to the Iraqi national assembly scheduled for late January 2005.

On his part, Lebanese Foreign Minister Mahmoud Hammoud said that Lebanon, Syria and Iran were under external pressure but would stick to their position and would strive for cooperation and dialogue with friendly countries.

The Iranian Foreign Minister is to discuss the developments in the Middle East with the Lebanese leadership.
