NOVGOROD VELIKY, February 2 (RIA Novosti's Andrei Letyagin) - The search of the remains of a wooden bridge, which linked Novgorod's kremlin with the Yaroslavovo settlement in the distant past, will take place on the bottom of the Volkhov river in the summer of 2005. This was disclosed by a source in the Novgorod State Reserve Museum on Wednesday.
As the chronicles say, the bridge was built on the verge of 10-11 centuries and served until 17 century, permanently being renovated. The bridge was situated on the spot of the present-day pedestrian stone bridge, called "hogged bridge".
Experts say the wooden bridge may have been the oldest Slavonic hydrotechnical facility. Divers involved in the search are supposed to take samples of wooden pillars of the bridge.
Members of a local diving club are supposed to carry out underwater search under the guidance of scientists from St. Petersburg and Novgorod Veliky.
