MOSCOW, February 4 (RIA Novosti) - Russian senators hope that, following Yulia Timoshenko's appointment as the Ukrainian prime minister, relations between Russia and Ukraine will not get worse.

In the conversation with RIA Novosti, chairman of the information policy commission of the Federation Council Dmitri Mezentsev voiced the hope that Ms. Timoshenko will take measures to develop the common economic space of the four countries (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan) as meeting the interests of Russia and Ukraine. The senator also hopes that work of the Timoshenko government will be business-like and immune to political considerations.

In turn, Senator Nikolai Ryzhkov noted that Ms.Timoshenko has good contacts with the Russian government and business. He called her a charismatic and simultaneously pragmatic politician. He does not think that Ms.Timoshenko will be a nominal premier. "Her character is different: she is an independent politician", Mr.Ryzhkov noted.

He believes that the new Ukrainian prime minister should be aware that without stronger cooperative contacts with Russia, above all in the economy, the Ukrainian economy will not be able to develop.

Chairman of the CIS committee of the Federation Council Vasili Duma noted that in Ukraine Ms.Timoshenko is seen as an anticrisis manager capable of improving the Ukrainian economy. "I think Ms.Timoshenko will cope with the goals set for her", he said.

He said that the Russian leadership should seek finding a common language with any state no matter who leads it and the government.

First deputy chairman of the Federation Council committee for affairs of the Federation and the regional policy Valeri Kadokhov believes that Mrs.Timoshenko has no great experience of state management, which is her biggest problem. "Ukraine is a country with a high industrial potential, which is to be duly managed. This is different from holding meetings and burning bonfires on the square. We'll see whether or not ideology, which is in place at meetings in the street, will turn into creative work. I'm not very sure", he said.

Mr.Kadokhov wished Mrs.Yulia Timoshenko to be oriented mostly towards Russia. "I would like Ukraine to be a Ukrainian, Slavonian civilization and not to forget that many Ukrainians live to the east of it", Mr.Kadokhov said.
