MOSCOW, February 9 (RIA Novosti) - "We do not think it is possible to solve global problems facing the world community in the beginning of the 21 century without the Islamic world, which makes up one fourth of the planet's population," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated at a meeting with ambassadors of the Islamic Conference Organization member states on the occasion of the Moslem New Year's Day.

According to the high-ranking official, the Islamic world can make an invaluable contribution on the basis of common efforts to build up an equal, more stable and secure system of international relations.

In Russia 20 million Moslems live side by side with Christians and followers of other religions, the Russian Foreign Minister reminded. "This experience is especially important now that religious and ethnic conflicts, fueling international terrorism, are becoming one of the most acute international problems," Mr. Lavrov underlined.
