Tomorrow, on February 12, the delegation of the World Club of Petersburgers will visit Tallinn, where it will lay wreaths at the monument to the sailors of the battleship Mermaid. In the evening a charity ball will be given in the Kadriorg Palace. Among the invited guests are members of the political, artistic and business elites of Russia and Estonia.
The money collected during the ball will be spent on restoring the monuments to the soldiers of Peter the Great near Narva and the Mermaid monument in Tallinn.
"In the year of the 60th anniversary of the Victory [in WWII] we want to remember the warriors who died in Estonia. We want to stress that Russia and Estonia have the common past, which must not be forgotten. And we have no doubt that this action will help bring the Russian and Estonian peoples closer together and be a reminder of the tragic events in our common history," Ms. Orlova said.
The action is sponsored by Russia's State Duma, the Culture Ministry of Estonia and the town halls of Tallinn and Narva.
The World Club of Petersburgers was founded in 1991. Today it has nearly 130 members. About 90 club members reside in St. Petersburg, and the rest live in other Russian cities and abroad - in the U.S., Canada, Germany, France and some other countries.
