BAGHDAD WELCOMES RUSSIAN COMPANIES IN IRAQ

MOSCOW, February 11 (RIA Novosti) - Iraqi leadership welcomes Russian companies to work in Iraq, announced Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Abdulkarim Hashem Mustafa.

"We do not impose any limitations or bans on the work of Russian companies in Iraq. On the contrary, the Iraqi leadership stands for support and development of business relations with Russia," the Ambassador emphasized.

"We should work together to overcome any obstacles that might exist between our countries," he underlined.

Mr. Mustafa acknowledged that there were security problems in "certain regions" of Iraq. "However, 80 percent of Iraqi territory might be considered safe. The success of Iraqi elections confirms it," the Ambassador stated.

He said that about 27 million people live in Iraq at present. Their income level is growing and, consequently, their buying power is increasing.

"At present, there are favorable conditions for Russian companies to return to Iraq," the Iraqi Ambassador announced.

He noted that political changes in the country allow the authorities to conduct a more liberal economic policy.

Mr. Mustafa also told journalists "Iraq expects a positive outcome from the talks with LUKoil on the West Kurna-2 project.
