MOSCOW, February 11 (RIA Novosti) - The foreign minister of Kirghizia, Askar Aitmatov, fears that, "if a revolutionary scenario is enforced" on his country, "this may result in an unpredictable situation". He said so at the RIA Novosti press conference on Friday.

"The specifics, culture and history of our country should be taken into account", he said.

"I'm afraid that, if a revolutionary scenario is enforced on us, it will not follow the Georgian and Ukrainian course but like that in Tajikistan in the early 1990s", Mr.Aitmatov said.

Simultaneously, the Kirghiz foreign minister noted that it follows from the experience of those revolutions that "they happened in the environment of the breach of law, the authorities' unpreparedness and lack of desire to resolve problems within the legal field and with the presence of active organized opposition".

He stressed that the government of Kirghizia "is well aware of it and will do everything within the legal framework to prevent destabilization".

Mr.Aitmatov believes that the situation in Kirghizia on eve of the February 27 parliamentary elections is "normal, quiet, stable".

Over 400 candidates vie for 75 parliamentary seats, he said. "Competition is sometimes tough", he noted.

Mr. Aitmatov said that Kirghizia has drawn conclusions from the criticisms by international organizations as regards results of the 2000 elections.

The upcoming elections are expected to attract several thousand international observers from all the involved countries and international organizations. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe will send about 200 observers.

Chinese observers, about 20, will for the first time arrive to the elections.
