The regular session of the research council was held yesterday under the chairmanship of Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and focused on the situation in the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The council discussed the modernization of integration processes and CIS reforms to make it more attractive for the member-states and promote bilateral and multilateral cooperation on the mutually beneficial basis, the Foreign Ministry said.
"In the new historic conditions we should take additional measures to promote the CIS efficiency, in particular, in the economic and humanitarian spheres," the information and press department noted.
The council's members stressed that relations with the CIS countries remained a top priority of Russia's foreign policy.
"The council focused on the combination of the CIS integration with prospects of Russia and other CIS countries for participating in the European integration," the department said.
