MOSCOW, February 14 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow resolutely condemns the terrorist attack on Lebanon and offers sincere condolences to relatives and friends of the victims and all Lebanese people, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

A powerful explosion hit the center of the Lebanese capital on February 14 killing many people including former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri.

Mr. Hariri who often visited Russia is known in this country as a major international statesman and our friend who had made a great contribution to the consolidation of Russian-Lebanese and Russian-Arab relations, the Foreign Ministry said.

"No matter who performed this terrorist act, they obviously strive for shattering domestic stability in Lebanon and undermining peace and accord between its main confessions. We are convinced that Lebanese people will cope with this ordeal and unite in spite of extremist provocations," the Foreign Ministry stressed.
