According to Mr. Ungureanu, during the meeting, the ministers discussed issues of international, regional and bilateral cooperation and the ways of its intensification.
"We agreed that the issues of security in the Balkans, in the Central and Eastern Europe and also in the neighboring regions must become a key topic of the dialogue between our countries," Mr. Ungureanu stated.
Speaking about relations between Bucharest and Moscow after Romania's accession to the European Union, Sergei Lavrov said, in particular, "we agreed to take all necessary measures to avoid any harm to bilateral relations after Romania's accession to the EU."
According to Mr. Lavrov, the sides also discussed cooperation on the global arena, including joint efforts in the framework of the OSCE, UN, and the Russia-NATO Council.
Sergei Lavrov expressed hope that the Romanian foreign minister, who accompanies the President of Romania on his visit to Moscow, would soon be able to visit Russia on his own.
The Russian minister reminded that recently both presidents exchanged opinions on strategic directions of cooperation between Moscow and Bucharest.
In his turn, Mr. Ungureanu pointed out that he and Mr. Lavrov managed to meet in Moscow soon after the structures of executive power had been formed in Romania.
The ministers also announced that they had agreed on the schedule of future bilateral meetings.
