According to the IAEA secretary, the session's agenda envisages IAEA control over nuclear security in IAEA member-states.
In his report to be commissioned on the first day of the Board of Governors session, IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei will highlight compliance with nuclear security agreements by such countries as Iran, North Korea and Egypt.
The Board of Governors will also consider issues pertaining to the appointment of a new IAEA director general for the next four years, whose terms begins December 1, 2005.
The only official candidate is Mr. ElBaradei. However, the U.S., which has considerable influence in the Board of Governors, may block Mr. ElBaradei's re-election for a third term if it secures support of 12 IAEA member states.
