MOSCOW, February 19 (RIA Novosti) - Chechen President Alu Alkhanov does not rule out that separatist leaders Aslan Maskhadov and Shamil Basayev are planning terrorist acts in the republic.
According to him, the Chechen leadership is not going to hold talks with militants. In his opinion, speaking about peaceful talks, militants want to justify their actions.
"When Maskhadov and Basayev speak about peaceful talks, this is insulting and surprising. These people enforced this war upon our multi-national country. Their proposal to hold peaceful talks is a mockery," Mr. Alkhanov said.
