"Certainly in order to host the 2012-Olympics Moscow competes with strong rivals such as New York, London, Madrid and Paris, but we believe that the final decision will be made in favor of Moscow due to a number of objective and subjective reasons," he said.
"The Moscow ecology and the quality of air are in no way lower and in some sense even better than in the rival cities and fully comply with international standards," Mr. Shantsev said when answering the questions of Austrian journalists.
As for the possible terrorist attacks, Mr. Shantsev assured that "all possible forces and means as well as the recent scientific achievements in the sphere of the security guarantee will be certainly used in order to prevent the acts of terrorism."
"We will increase the staff of the law-enforcement and special forces bodies in order to eliminate all chances to commit a terrorist attack at the early stage," the Vice Mayor promised.
The 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of Russia's participation in the Olympic Games and Mr. Shantsev believes that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) must take into consideration this fact, when making the decision on the venue city on July 6 in Singapore.
According to him, before the 2012-Olympics the majority of stadiums and sports grounds in Moscow will be restored, including the Luzhniki stadium - the heart of the Olympics.
Mr. Shantsev promised to build two new stadiums and completely reconstruct another one before the 2010. The biggest tennis center in Europe, which will be named after Juan Antonio Samaranch, the former IOC President, will be build inMoscow as well.
The Olympic village, which will be built in the park area of the Moskva river, will have all the necessary conveniences, Mr. Shantsev promises.
The concept of the 2012 Olympic Games in Moscow was called "The Olympic River" which means that all athletic events will be held on the banks of the Moskva river, where the Luzhniki stadium is situated as well.
"It will be useful for the solution of the transportation issue. We will have special river transportation means and every vessel will be named after Olympic champions. We will manage to transport 60,000-100,000 people daily by river, whereas the largest distance between the Olympic village and a stadium will be covered in 28 minutes without traffic jams at all," Mr. Shantsev said.
"We have no doubts that the IOC will make a wise decision and give Moscow a chance to host the 2012-Olympics, since Moscow is the only city after Beijing to give an outstanding reception for the summer Olympic games," Valery Shantsev noted.
