He gave no details on the measures taken against the detained Russians.
Speaking about a group of Russian, Kazakh and Ukrainian citizens who had been expelled from Moldova, Mr. Botnar said, "None of these groups was officially registered in the Central Election Commission and all of them violated passport regulations."
Most Russian citizens were accused of illegal activities connected with the election campaign in Moldova, the information and press department of the Russian Foreign Ministry said commenting on the expulsion of Russians from Moldova.
"Biased attitude to Russian representatives is obvious, especially, against the background of recent activities of experts in election campaigns from other countries in Moldova," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Moldovan authorities did not explain to the Foreign Ministry the reasons why the Russian citizens had been expelled from Moldova, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told journalists in Moscow on Tuesday. "The Foreign Ministry and the embassy are working on this issue," he noted.
Parliamentary elections will take place in Moldova on March 6.
