TEHRAN, March 11 (RIA Novosti) - Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Hassan Rouhani has said that, under the additional protocol to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, earlier signed by Tehran (but still not ratified by the parliament), inspections of Iranian military facilities are limited.

"Under the additional protocol, IAEA specialists may inspect Iranian nuclear facilities but inspections of military centers are very limited", Mr. Rouhani told journalists on Friday.

To him, "from the point of view of this document, there is no need to allow study of each military center in the Islamic Republic. They (IAEA inspectors) may study the state of environment and take air samples near our military installations".

"There is a great difference between Iran and Iraq, where according to the resolution of the UN Security Council it was allowed to inspect even the palace of Saddam Hussain. In Iran inspections are carried out by the IAEA and within the framework of the additional protocol to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty", said the secretary of the Iranian Security Council.

In the middle of last January, the Islamic Republic gave a permission to take samples of the environment in the territory of the Parchin military center (30 kilometers east of the Iranian capital). Samples were taken by IAEA specialists. After that, the IAEA asked for an additional visit to the facility without providing concrete explanations.

Iran holds the first place in the number of IAEA inspections of its nuclear facilities over the last two-odd years. Overall, the number of scheduled and unscheduled visits by IAEA inspectors to Iran exceeds 1,000 man-days. No confirmation or proof of the presence of a military components in the on-going nuclear programs has been produced.
