Tom Dixon's installation, "The Mirror Totem" takes up the center. An arrangement of big spherical mirrors put on top each other, it was also the center piece of the 100% Design while it was on in London, autumn last.
Right above the Totem is an arrangement of lamps, under the motto, "Twinkle, twinkle." The most spectacular exhibit here, by the UK's top-notch Ron Arad, is a spiral crystal chandelier that re-creates famous Czech items of the 1970s. Ornaments are the only difference-letters instead of folk patterns. The chandelier has a SIM card, and one can mail an SMS from it.
An impressive open stand of Italy's Giorgetti Co., to the Totem's right, offers its exhaustive collection-mainly imitating British neo-classicism, with a stress on Leon Criller's furniture.
The Vitra furniture museum has its sizable exposition next to the Giorgetti. The world-renowned company has turned now to antiquarian-style avant-garde.
British lamps, chairs, sofas, installations and cut-glass are all reminiscent of the 1970s. Many exhibits appear as replicas of what the magazine "Decorative Art in the USSR" was advertising in its glossy photos at the time.
