MOSCOW, March 12 (RIA Novosti) - Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin invited CEO of RAO Unified Energy Systems of Russia Anatoly Chubais to pay an official visit to the republic to discuss bilateral energy cooperation, member of the RAO UES board Andrei Trapeznikov told journalists on Saturday.

In his words, Mr. Chubais is ready to visit Moldova after the release of his aide Valery Pasat.

"We insist on his soonest release," Mr. Chubais told journalists.

"We are taking all effort in cooperation with the Russian authorities," he added.

According to Mr. Chubais, he talked to Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin on the phone. The latter said he had no claims against RAO UES but had personal claims against Mr. Pasat.

"I told him [Voronin] that no matter what juridical aspects of this matter are, this is a hard blow on our company which is absolutely unprovoked," Anatoly Chubais said.

"The Moldovan leadership is aware of our efforts on the development of bilateral economic relations. Mr. Pasat's arrest is groundless. Moreover, it may be regarded as a provocation," he continued.

Mr. Chubais expressed hope that the problem would be solved on Monday. In his words, RAO UES has hired a lawyer in Chisinau and is taking all effort aimed at Mr. Pasat's release.

Moldova's Prosecutor General's Office announced Saturday that it detained Valery Pasat in connection with its inquiry into a sale of 21 MIG-29 jet fighters.

"This transaction incurred the Moldovan budget damages to the tune of tens of millions of US dollars. The transaction took place in 1997 when Mr. Pasat was holding the post of Moldova's Defense Minister," a spokesman for the Prosecutor General's Office told RIA Novosti.
